Kerri: Hi, congrats on winning JotW. Sounds like you are doing good work. What kind of dog is Hula? She reminds me so much of our dog Lily. (from my journal go to my website and you can see a pic.) Lily was such a good dog - so sweet and naturally obedient. She has passed away, but boy I miss her. We are blessed with Belle now and love her, but I still miss Lily.

Charity: I was just reading the blog about our Donna & Jackie. We took Jackie to Mound's today for the Microchipping clinic and she was the Belle of the Ball. She was so well behaved. She got along with all of the other dogs and didn't have any indoor accidents! She even curled up in a lady named Andrea's lap. Another 2-4 weeks and the girls will be adoptable. They are so sweet!
Arvie: Thanks! These babies have such a great shot at an amazine life... Thanks to all who help support ARVSS!!!

Beyond Rescue!

  • Mood: Happy
  • Thankful for: Nurturing Homes

ARVSS accepts challenges from time to time - as they can afford it... Bella has been the topic of a lot of chatter lately, but meet JACKIE and DONNA!  (Rescued from the Gulf Coast area... Katrina victims still need help!)

Donna & Jackie arrive in Wisconsin in Nov. 2006

On the "Mange Scale" of 1 to 10, Donna and Jackie were 12's! These poor girls arrived in such bad condition, it was thought that they had been burned in a fire. Dr. T says just very, very bad case of demodectic mange! Not too many rescues would take on animals in such bad condition, let alone PIT BULLS! It is their sweet and loving disposition that has brought them to us. You won't find two happier pups to be alive!

This type of mange is not contageous, and the mites live in the hair follicles of most dogs. Because of Donna & Jackie's poor immune system, stress and malnutrition - the mites reproduced rapidly... causing all this horrible hair loss and infection.

Photos taken 01/25/07... what a difference!

Jackie and Donna have been living with Charity and Jim on their farm for several months. Due to their loving care and treatment, these two girls have a good shot at a happy life now. They are healing very well and are growing up to be quite the young ladies!

(Jackie and Donna have a sister, Mabel.  I didn't have any recent photos of her - but she is doing just great in her foster home.  She has bonded with the foster's blind dog, Ray... they are amazing together... she may end up staying there for-ever!  Also on this rescue trip, but not from the same litter is Trixie!  You can read about her on our web page:  http://arvss.petfinder.com )
